With an award-winning soundtrack and dynamic performances by Prince and the Revolution, this film continues to amaze, 30 years later. The semi-autobiographical plot follows the journey of a young musician facing the challenges of a dysfunctional family, dissatisfied band, and rocky romance, while he discovers his musical voice and his star begins to rise.

Pre-K Friends celebrate Great Outdoors Month with stories, music and art

June is Great Outdoors Month! Celebrate with us during "Tea Time Under the Trees"! On Monday, June 8 at 11 a.m., Pre-Kindergarteners ages 3 - 5 will listen to stories like Friends Help Each Other (featuring Daniel Tiger!), dance and make art on the front lawn during a late morning of summer breezes and shady trees.

Join us Wednesday evenings in June at 7 p.m. for Music DVDs featuring Hip Hop legends, Dizzy Gillespie, African American Music History and Music of South Africa. A salute to African Americans in Opera will be held on Sunday, June 14, with photographs of African American Opera performers on display and a live performance with Guest Artist Sheryl Perry, Lyric Coloratura Soprano at 2:30 p.m.

Hans Kindler's bust gets a cleaning!

Hans Kindler, the conductor and founder of the National Symphony Orchestra from 1931 to 1949, donated his extensive orchestral score collection to the DC Public Library. Today, local and area orchestras can check out music for their upcoming concerts, relieving a bit of the financial stress of running a local arts organization.
