Challenge Accepted: Read Harder 2017

Challenge #17: Read a classic by an author of color

2017 is here and a new year means new year resolutions and challenges. One reading challenge that I love to do is Book Riot’s Read Harder challenge. Instead of having people focus on a specific number of books, Read Harder challenges people to read different genres or authors that they may overlook. This year, there are 24 prompts for readers. Today we will address the 17th challenge, to read a classic by an author of color.

Real Love

"You see I'm searching for a real love and I don't know where to go. Been around the world and high and low and still I'll never know.  How it feels to have a real love 'cause it seems it's not around. Gotta end it in this way because it seems he can't be found." - Mary J. Blige

Church Folk

Slightly scandalous urban Christian Fiction

There is a genre of fiction that is categorized as Urban Christian. The story lines often reveal emotional and spiritual conflicts within urban church settings. The intensities between the spiritual and secular warfare can range from the horrific to the comedic. Of course, sex and violence heighten the novels’ appeal. My reaction to these non-stop scandals that are occurring in the church and outside the church is WOW. These authors offer intriguing plots and characters that demonstrate that nobody is exempt from being involved in church scandal.

Non-Stop Page Turners

Urban Fiction

Urban Fiction are books about street drama, many with characters that are forced into the street life, learning how to survive at a young age. Many of the books feature "mature content." There are three words that I use to describe these books: non-stop page turners.
