The DC Public Library is taking additional steps to ensure all DC residents have access to the many resources available via the Library’s digital collection. To do so, the Library removed barriers to more than 4,000 blocked Library cards.  

March DC Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting Postponed

The DC Public Library announced today the DC Public Library Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for March 25, 2020 has been postponed due to the adjustment of the District of Columbia’s operating status. The DC Public Library is hosting special online programs and events over the next three weeks to help people remain connected as the District encourages social distancing. Today, the Library is launching a special DC Reads book club centered on Elizabeth Acevedo's novel "With the Fire on High." Library users and DC residents are encouraged to join the online book discussion of the book from March 18 through April 8.

Today, DC Public Library released its list of the most popular titles by black authors and/or related to black history in the past year. According to their records, more than 50,000 books by or about African-Americans have been borrowed since February 2019 including works by Pulitzer Prize-winning authors, children's books and local authors. Of the nearly five million items borrowed or downloaded, these are the most popular titles by type and format. Over the last decade, the District’s food and beverage industry has grown by 29 percent. To help ensure that District residents have an opportunity to learn the skills needed for the estimated 52,000 jobs in this sector, the Library is seeking a partner to develop, manage and operate a workforce development model for food service operations in the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.
