Warrior Canine Connection Dog Drops in for a Visit

Check out books on how dogs help people everyday .

Bunce, a Warrior Canine Connection (WCC) dog-in-training, checked out the children's Halloween books here at the Tenley-Friendship Library last week. Bunce’s WCC trainer, Andrea McCarren, a reporter for WUSA9 News, has been caring for and training Bunce since he was a puppy. She looks forward to the day when Bunce is ready to help a combat veteran. Warrior Canine Connection enlists service members and veterans in the training of service dogs and matches veterans suffering from combat stress with these highly-trained therapy dogs that provide years of mobility and social support.

What We Read for Comic Book Club

Recommended comic books for late elementary schoolers

Last school year, I was lucky enough to host a comic book club for a group of bright, enthusiastic 4th grade girls. They were a lively, talkative bunch, but as far as comics went, we had a mix of long-time comic fans and “newbies” in our numbers.

Favorite Romances in YA Fic

For those who like romance in their YA, but not necessarily "YA Romance"

One of my co-workers came up with a metaphor for romance in the fiction that perfectly surmises my own feelings on the subject. She said: “Romance in a story should be like seasoning.” Seasoning is an enhancer, an additive -- you value its presence in a dish, but can’t have a satisfying meal of just salt or paprika. I feel the same way about romance in a book.

New: Story Times Will Now Require Tickets for Attendance

Preregistration for Baby Lap Time and Wonderful Ones & Twos no longer needed

We will no longer require preregistration for story times.  Starting July 29, children and their caregivers attending Baby Lap Time and Wonderful Ones & Twos will need tickets to participate.  A limited number of tickets will be made available 30 minutes before story time in our Children's Room. They will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis. Other story times that require tickets are Tuesday's Story Break and Friday's Preschool Story Time.
