Join DC Public Library for a city-wide scavenger hunt celebrating our freedom to read

Join DC Public Library for its Fourth Annual #UncensoredDC Banned Book Scavenger Hunt & Cocktail Party!

Starting Tuesday, September 4, hundreds of banned books will be hidden at various locations around the city. The theme for this year's scavenger hunt is "Words Ignite: The Literature of Activism" so each book title reflects how literature can be used as a tool for change. Books are wrapped in a special cover featuring a poignant message about the book!  

Here’s the skinny on the hunt and party!
  • Location clues will be announced every day from September 4 - September 28. Tune in to WAMU's Morning Edition for daily riddles. You can also follow along on our social media platforms using #UncensoredDC. Daily clues will be posted to:
  • Win awesome prizes just for finding books! In addition to keeping the discovered books, participants can win prizes such as free museum tickets to the Newseum, gift certificates to local restaurants, free tickets to our UNCENSORED Cocktail Party, and so much more. All you have to do is a post a photo of the discovered book to social media using #UncensoredDC
UNCENSORED: The Cocktail Party is the DC Public Library Foundation's annual fundraiser celebrating the freedom to read, create and express. This year's party will take place at Blind Whino on September 28 at 7 p.m.

The evening will include - 
  • Banned book-themed cocktails created by D.C.'s best local bartenders
  • Performances by local musicians
  • Provocative art installations designed by local artists
  • Maker crafts led by DC Public Library librarians
  • Pop-up market with Made in DC businesses
  • And so much more
