Wolf Trap Comes to DC Public Library

Enjoy a variety of Wolf Trap Family Arts Experiences with programs for young children taught by master teaching artists about the movements, sounds and instruments of West African Traditions; take an imaginary journey to a rainforest to learn about the importance of protecting these unique ecosystems; and a puppet show about animals in a great big tree.

Discover the magic of STEM with Mad Science! Mad Science is bringing two of their family favorite programs to a library near you, Spectacular Science: Fire & Ice and Things That Go Boom! Spectacular Science: Fire & Ice thrills with foggy dry ice clouds, the chemistry of fire, a disappearing water trick and fun with air pressure! In Things That Go Boom, you will learn about the four signs of a chemical reaction through foaming and color-changing experiments, balloon inflation, and, of course, some explosions!

Enjoy Engaging Stories with Story Tapestries

Story Tapestries is bringing several of their incredible storytellers to DC Public Library locations across the District! Stories include:

  • America the Beautiful: Valerie Baugh-Schlossberg leads you on a journey from coast to coast, singing and hearing stories and folktales that celebrate and explore the beauty of our nation.
  • A-Squared: Dance Duo - A Squared with Ashlee McKinnon and Avril Hernandez will use choreography, freestyle, and student interaction to bring the elements of hip-hop dance to life that tells a story and moves to music.
  • Giggling Wiggling Bookworm: A multilingual program led by Arianna Ross that weaves the power of dance, theater, music and storytelling together.
  • Mangos to Apples: Lean in to hear the Mango Poem with Poet Regie Cabico. Through the rainbow spectrum, the audience is transported to Cebu, a Southern Island in the Philippines. 
  • Rapping with Mr. Root: An interactive and engaging Hip Hop program led by Jamaal "Mr. root" Collier where each member of the audience has an opportunity to get involved with call-and-response, steady beat chants, beat production and even group dancing!
  • Stories + Dance = JOY: Join choreographer, dancer, and educator Kelly King in a playful, movement-centered performance and demonstration.
  • Talk With Your Hands: Praneetha Akula creates stories through Indian Classical Dance where everyone can stomp it out, clap out beats and express themselves through this ancient technique.

Be a Physicist with GSK Science in the Summer

The Be a Physicist! program invites children to take on the role of scientists as they investigate different forms of energy and use the principles of physics to solve real-world problems. Each Be a Physicist! activity highlights a real-world career through a story that invites children to play the role of a person in that career, while exploring how energy moves, changes, and shapes the world around them.

Harness Your Heritage and Native Language with Lulu Delacre

Families can harness their heritage and native language into writing their own stories. Through highlighting some of her titles, Lulu will share her secrets on how children and their families can harness their heritage and native language into writing their own stories in words and/or pictures. The program will include an interactive activity for participants to create a page about their favorite tree to add to Lulu's latest book Cool Green: Amazing Remarkable Trees, Verde fresco: Árboles asombrosos y extrarodinarios. This is a hour long bilingual program for children and the adults that want to see them succeed.
