Income Tax Help

Community Tax Aid will provide tax preparation services at MLK Library from Monday, April 5, 2021 to Friday, May 14, 2021. The services will be provided Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. This service will be by appointment only. To make an appointment, please call Community Tax Aid directly at 202-830-1480.

During the appointment, representatives from Community Tax Aid will complete an intake interview and scan documents related to your tax return.  Volunteer preparers are working remotely this season and will contact you when your return is complete.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Individuals and families with less than $57,000 in income (taxable and non-taxable)

DOCUMENTS TO BRING ONCE YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT:

  • Social Security Cards (or ITIN letter) for the taxpayer and anyone claimed as a dependent
  • Valid Photo ID for taxpayer and spouse (if filing jointly)
  • All W-2’s, 1099’s, bank interest statements and other income information
  • Record of expenses for tax credits and deductions (child care, education, student loans, medical expenses)
  • Account and Routing Number for direct deposit of your refund
  • Income statements for all your dependents (W2s, 1099-SSAs, etc.)
  • Copy of your 2019 return if available
  • 1095-A form if you purchased health insurance through the Marketplace/Exchange

WHO COMMUNITY TAX AID CAN’T PREPARE TAX RETURNS FOR:

  • Cab drivers
  • Individuals with rental income or home office deductions
  • Day traders or businesses that have undocumented expenses, inventory or depreciation
  • Those with complicated items reported on Schedule D
  • Individuals with large amounts of investment income
