DC Public Library Celebrates Arab American Heritage Month

Join us this April as DC Public Library honors the achievements and rich heritage of Arab Americans! National Arab American Heritage Month (NAAHM) is a time to recognize the many contributions Arab Americans have made to our society.

Throughout April we encourage you to explore the vibrant traditions, history, and culture of Arab Americans in our community. Check out great reads recommended by the library and the Arab American Foundation, research Arab American stories with library resources, join us for the Arab American Foundation Fest at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library and more!

National Arab American Heritage Month: Understanding Arab Music

In recognition of National Arab American Heritage Month, the DC Public Library will host an educational concert with Arab American musician Muez Edriss to celebrate their history and culture on Saturday, Apr. 12 at 3 p.m. at the MLK Library.

Muath Edriss is a renowned Arab vocalist, composer, and music lecturer. Winner of Best Voice in 2000, he made history as the first to compose, translate, and perform the U.S. National Anthem in Arabic. In 2023, he became the first Arab American to sing in Arabic on the oud at the White House. A visiting lecturer at Indiana University and Bloomsburg College, he proudly serves as an Ambassador for the Arab America Foundation.
