Eight Books for Eight Nights of Hanukkah

This year many of our neighbors will celebrate Hanukkah, starting the evening of Thursday, Dec. 7 through Friday, Dec. 15. Hanukkah is a winter "festival of lights." Families mark the occasion by lighting a menorah each night, sharing gifts, and enjoying special foods. The word Hanukkah means "dedication," The lighting of the menorah symbolizes the story of a miracle where when the Maccabees reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and rededicated it. They only had enough oil to light the Temple's Menorah for one night but the supply lasted for eight whole nights.

DC Public Library App Outage

Due to a contract conflict between two software vendors, the DC Public Library app is currently experiencing functionality limitations. The vendors are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. While the issue is being explored we have some tips so you can continue to enjoy the benefits of your DC Public Library card uninterrupted.

Holiday Pop Up Shops at MLK Library

A Shop by the People of DC, for the People of DC! The DC Public Library is partnering with the Heurich House Museum to open a holiday shop featuring locally-made and Library-themed goods: The Markt at MLK. Starting on Small Business Saturday, November 25th through Sunday, December 17th, find over a dozen products for gift-giving this season at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library.
