E. L. Doctorow

Explore his books

Born in January 1931, E. L. (Edgar Lawrence) Doctorow mostly writes historical fiction.  Many of his books are set in his native New York City. One of his first jobs was reading books looking for potential movies. He came to realize that he could write just as well as the authors he was being paid to read. In celebration of Doctorow’s birthday, Palisades Neighborhood Library has a display of E. L. Doctorow’s books, including:
